Juried Art Show

The Red River Valley Museum annually sponsors a National Juried Art show of outstanding quality. In 2007, eighty-nine artists from twenty-one states entered work in the exhibition. Work was accepted in the categories of oil/acrylic, watercolor, graphics/pastel/mixed media and sculpture.

Usually, the gala opening of the exhibition is the "Denim and Diamonds" evening. Inside the museum the "Diamonds" portion of the evening includes viewing and selecting artwork, a gourmet reception, chamber music and presentation of awards. The evening also includes a barbecue dinner on the museum grounds and live country music for a unique "Denim" experience.

For 2007, the format was slightly different. The opening of the exhibition was timed to coincide with a weekend of activities associated with the Great Western Cattle Trail. "The Tastes & Tales of the Western Trail" was the theme of the art show opening. Foods representing areas of the Great Western Trail were served. Cowboy Poet Lanny Joe Burnett of Bonham Texas and musician Larry Drennan provided entertainment.

The Red River Valley Museum invites entries to the 2008 art show. Please see the online prospectus and entry form. You may also request a prospectus by phone, e-mail, or mail.
